Conclusions
The research shows that using a collaborative learning environment is an effective strategy for improving students' understanding of the concept of energy. The findings indicate that peer and computer-mediated collaboration are beneficial for student learning. Moreover, students who participated in the peer educational treatment outperformed those who did not receive this treatment in all three test scores. In addition, students' performance on the posttest was significantly better than their performance on the pretest, and this increase was primarily due to their participation in the peer-mediated treatment.
The results also show that gender does not influence the effectiveness of the instructional approach used in this study. Furthermore, there were no significant differences between students with high and low proficiency levels in science.
